Previously know as the Junior Collection, Our Children’s and Young Adult Collection is a collection of children's literature designed to be used by students preparing for school placement.
Books in this collection will be listed as 'Children’s and YA Collection' on Library Search and they are located on the 1st floor, Cregan Library.
The collection reflects the themes featured in the primary curriculum: the core of the collection features Irish and UK published classic and contemporary children's fiction and non fiction as well as award winning literature from other countries, including wordless picture books, folklore, and a variety of topics.
All of the items in our Children’s and Young Adult Collection Collection are labeled with the prefix J before the shelfmark.

The Children’s and Young Adult Collection collection houses a few different types of book resources, including Big Books, STEM education, Wordless Picture Books, books focusing on specific curriculum topics, and also general junior fiction and non-fiction books.
We are also looking to begin expanding on YA literature too, to support Post-Primary/Secondary teachers.

We have a range of large format books, aka Big Books, within the Children’s and Young Adult Collection.
Big Books are available for a range of topics to support teaching, including Geography, Language development, Religion, Fiction, Science, and Arts.
Our Big Books in this Collection can be searched for in Library Search under "Large format for classroom use", and selecting 'Children’s and YA Collection 3wk loan' as the collection.
