In January 2020 a small study was conducted on the DCU publication set in Scopus/SciVal to see if a quantitative, objective indicator could be found to suggest a citation advantage (or otherwise) for OA publications. In total, nearly 3,000 publications were extracted from Scopus, sorted into either an open or closed publication set (using Unpaywall) and these two publication sets were analysed using SciVal to determine their respective citations per publication (A snowball metric). The citation per publication count for the open set was 9.1, almost double the rate for the paywalled set (4.8)
