Newspapers are very useful in gathering information on current issues and historical events. Their content is extensive, with topics ranging from business, history, politics, the arts and more. Newspapers provide essential primary source or secondary sources of information on contemporary and historical events.
Sources that document first-hand, eyewitness accounts of a moment in time are primary sources. Serials, including newspapers, periodicals, magazines and scholarly journals are examples of primary sources. Primary source material is very important for people conducting research across all disciplines, most notably in the arts, history, literature and the humanities.
Secondary sources typically comment on, or interpret primary sources. They can cover the same topic but add an element of interpretation and analysis in their commentary. Secondary source material is very important for people conducting research across all disciplinces, again most notably in the arts, history, literature and the humanities.
