Citing and referencing in IHS

History modules within the School of History and Geography in DCU ask that you cite and reference your sources using IHS style (Irish Historical Studies style). If your school or faculty has provided you with their own IHS style guide, refer to this guide first when formatting your footnotes and your bibliography. If you haven't been provided with a school guide, or if you're seeking further clarification on how to cite and reference a particular source, refer to the official IHS 'Rules for contributors' on the Irish Historical Studies website.

Juliana Adelman (DCU School of History and Geography) and Orna Farrell (DCU Connected) have created quick guides to using IHS style. Find both of those guides, along with the official IHS guide here.

See our short video below for a demonstration of how to cite and reference a book, a chapter in an edited book, and a journal article in IHS style.
