EBSCOhost Databases: New EBSCO User Interface

Changes to EBSCO: New User Interface for EBSCOhost databases

On 23 June 2025, the new EBSCOhost User Interface (UI) will be launched. On and from that day, all EBSCO databases subscribed to by DCU will  feature the new user interface. We are providing the following information to allow time for the DCU community to proactively prepare for and learn about the changes.

Designed with the user in mind, the new EBSCOhost interface, with it's "new look" and feel, will allow users to access information in a more  streamlined manner. To familiarise yourself with the changes, please refer to the  Where to find more information section of this guide. The accompanying suite of video tutorials in this section will assist you in adapting to the updated platform.

One of the key features of the new interface is the personalised dashboard, this replaces Folders and Custom folders found in the classic EBSCOhost. The new dashboard will contain Projects, Saved Items, Searches and items you have viewed. To familiarise yourself with the new dashboard, please refer to New User Dashboard on the Impacted features: What to do next? section of this page.

Important to note: Some saved items in MyEBSCO Folders will not transfer to the new EBSCO  and will no longer be accessible as of June 23. Before the June 23 migration, action is needed by you to save items (where applicable) to your My Folder or to your personal device. We have listed the impacted features below:

My Folder: (Action needed)

The following records saved in My Folders will migrate automatically, so there is no action needed:

  • Articles
  • Images
  • Videos
  • eBooks
  • Saved Searches

The below records saved in My Folders will not migrate automatically, so action is needed. Before June 23, take a note of them and re-create them manually in the new interface:

  • Companies
  • Webpages
  • Persistent Link to Searches
  • Notes
  • Pages
  • Other content sources

Note: Following migration Saved Searches will be located under the Searches tab in the Saved section of the new dashboard.

Users simply log into their account under the new dashboard using their Classic MyEbsco Account credentials to access their content.

Custom folders or Shared folders: (Action needed)

Custom folders or Shared folders will not migrate automatically to the new interface. In advance of switching, Custom folders or Shared folders should be moved to My Folder Move Saved Searches from Custom Folder or they may be printed, emailed or exported to your own device Save and Export Items from your Custom Folders. (Please note, these videos make reference to January, whereas we opted for the later June migration).

Journal Alerts: (Action needed)

To ensure your journal alerts are running after migration they will need to be re-created in the new interface. In advance of switching, take note of the journals you have created alerts for, (screenshot or copy and paste into a document), and following migration re-create them in the new user interface.

Search Alerts: (Action needed)

To ensure your search alerts are running after migration they will need to be re-created in the new interface. In advance of switching, take note of the terms you have used you in the searches you have created searches alerts for, (screenshot or copy and paste into a document), and following migration re-create them in the new user interface.

Help from DCU Library

We understand that changes to an important platform such as EBSCO can cause disruption for users, especially those who enjoy a familiar way of working with these databases. Library staff are here to ensure the transition is as seamless as possible, and to provide support for users who have questions on how to use the updated interface.

While we expect changes to be intuitive, the Library Chat service is available for any support or questions you may have during the transition.
