Writing Data Management Plans: Roles & Responsibilities

Roles & Responsibilities

It is important to remember that even if you are the party responsible for drafting the data management plan, it is incumbent on all parties to both contribute to the plan (initially), revise the plan (periodically), and uphold the aims and commitments of the plan throughout the research lifecycle.

Map the actions identified in the plan under the headings outlined in this guide to individuals in the team...

  • Data Creation/Capture
  • Metadata and Documentation
  • Ethics & Compliance
  • Storage, Backup, & Encryption
  • Preservation, Archiving, & Sharing

If your project is collaborative, identify responsibilities in both teams and explain the co-ordination of data management activities between the teams.

Remember your Data Management Plan is a living document, and in almost all circumstances will require some revision along the way. Consider waypoints throughout the project to review the original plan and revise where necessary. Use DMPonline to create, but also, store and edit your DMP. It's then possible for anybody to download and print PDF copies of the current version whenever required.
