Welcome to our libguide for folktales and fables!
Folk tale:
a very old traditional story from a particular place that was originally passed on to people in spoken form (Oxford Learner's Dictionaries)
Fable:
a traditional short story that teaches a moral lesson, especially one with animals as characters; these stories considered as a group (also Oxford Learner's Dictionaries)
Folktales and fables are great for the English language learning classroom because both types of story tend to be universal.
