Top Tip
While most databases have built-in thesauri, you may find it helpful to look at the controlled vocabulary in the UNESCO Thesaurus when you begin your searches in a new topic or subject area.
1. Consider your research question and identify key concepts.
2. Next, identify keywords and search terms, don't forget to consider alternative words with similar meanings.
3. Choose a database, hover over the title to check subject coverage.
4. Search the database by entering your keywords individually or in combination using Boolean operators AND/OR/NOT.
